Release Notes Mistaken For Trophies is the name of HIS STATUE FALLS second album. This is
an allusion to people who adorn themselves with borrowed plumes – an
accusation which does not apply to the band that has been following their
own path from the very beginning.
In 2003 HIS STATUE FALLS already experimented with samples, when the band
was nothing more than a side project. After the release of their debut
Collisions in 2010 they were one of the first German bands that mixed
Techno, Screamo, Pop and Breakdowns. Without having any second thoughts they
named their sound Techcore and within two years they played more than 150
shows, i.e. the Darkness Over X-Mas Tour 2010, which completely sold out.
In 2012 HIS STATUE FALLS are no longer the only ones playing the sound they
developed. Some may even be annoyed by buzzwords like Techcore or
Electrocore. Even the band got a little bored with the scene: Many bands
dont even try to create something new, but want to sound like band X or Y.
With the new record we want to cut above the usual stuff. We want to prove
that there is room for ideas and surprises within the genre.
HIS STATUE FALLS are trying to reach this goal with easy means: more than
ever focus is put on clean vocals, choruses are catchier and guitars are
given more prominence. The electronic parts are more varied, less striking
and fit way better into the songs. When they wrote the songs for the new
album Mistaken For Trophies the band tried to avoid obvious clich: The
songs are not buried beneath tons of effects like auto-tune, guitars are not
just tuned down, and breakdowns are not only self-serving. We considered
what will come after the trend and we wanted to create a record that is
still relevant in a couple of years, the band said.
HIS STATUE FALLS may not yet be mature but they have definitely grown up.
We all have families, we are older and we dont hit the clubs every weekend
anymore. You can hear this on the new record. Mistaken For Trophies is
darker, more grown-up and more personal than the bands previous record. The
songs are about grief, loss and anger. They are simply referring to a normal
life where relationships suddenly end and where you have to suffer the loss
of loved ones.
We wanted to explore our boundaries, to be harder and to have more pop
appeal without leaving our very own style behind. Many bands have claimed
the same for themselves but it actually applies to HIS STATUE FALLS new
record. It seems like this statement is the only borrowed plume that HIS
STATUES FALLS and Mistaken For Trophies can adorn themselves with. In 2012
the band`s sound still is one thing: genuinely unique.
